The Role:  Tool Room Manager

Location:  Bishopbriggs, Glasgow

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The role assumes overall responsibility for the efficient running of the tooling department in the UK site, covering all aspects of planned tool maintenance, workload planning, staff training and development, and providing technical support across the site process engineering function to maximise production efficiency.

Day-to-day duties cover the following:

Managing a site-wide tool preventative maintenance programme, including management of spares and consumable materials.

  • Scheduling work plans for the tooling engineering staff.
  • Providing, when required, technical guidance to the tooling department on fault finding, diagnostics and corrective activities.
  • Staff development and training, including overseeing apprentice training and mentoring.
  • Management and implementation of best-practice working processes and procedures within the department.
  • Support/advise on new tool design and sourcing activities, including liaison with other Group in-house and external tooling teams.

Skills/Qualifications

  • It is essential you have extensive knowledge and experience of injection mould tool making, and will most likely be a time-served tool maker who has gained at least three years in a supervisory capacity, either managing a tool shop, or from a tool making organisation.
  • You will be familiar and comfortable with analysing tool CAD/CAM and be able to identify areas of optimisation and design to aid tool maintenance and efficient life expectancy.
  • As a team leader you set the standards, so you need to be a good communicator, comfortable building a positive can-do spirit across the team.
  • You will be naturally meticulous, with a good eye for detail, and an ability to encourage a common approach department-wide.
  • You will be able to manage multiple tasks, and to objectively prioritise where required.

Annual Leave

25 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays per year

Mon – Thu 08.30 – 17.00

Fri 08.30 – 14.30
